The sound of Hamish's voice only faded once they had rounded the street corner.
Gary stopped and looked at Teresa. "Don't you trust me?"
He had said more than once that Justin and the others would beg him to return to the hospital, but Teresa never seemed to take him seriously.
Seeing the disappointment in his eyes, Teresa said worriedly, "No, I just felt that this all happened because of me. I wanted to—"
Before she could finish, Gary gently took hold of her arms and said firmly, "Teresa, just trust me this once. I can handle it."
Since Gary had spoken with such certainty, Teresa said nothing more. She smiled faintly and replied, "Okay. I trust you."
Gary's lips curved slightly. "You won't have to wait long."
Teresa nodded, breathing a quiet sigh of relief.
Gary did not come from an influential family. He had reached his current position entirely through his own effort and study.
