Chapter 27 Shopping for Baby Gear
"Took the pill," the man replied without hesitation, then added coldly, "You took it last time. Don't even think about fathering a bastard with some stranger just to report to Keaton Hawthorne."
I curled my lips into a wan smile. "Birth control isn't 100% effective."
My words seemed to unsettle Dominic Hawthorne. His eyes dropped to my stomach, demanding, "Are you pregnant?"
"You tell me." I looked back at him, expressionless, revealing nothing.
Dominic stared at me, silent, his face showing no trace of joy.
Perhaps I was too desperate for our child to have a father, so I pressed on, "Do you want me to be pregnant?"
He remained silent.
Isn't silence just another form of denial?
I buried my disappointment and forced a light smile. "I'm not. I'm just kidding. No matter how stupid I am, I wouldn't have a child with a man who doesn't love me."
