Chapter 50 Saving Vivian from the Fire 3
In the living room, Bernard Jacobson couldn't find Vivian, so he rushed to the bedroom. She wasn't there either. Finally, he noticed the bathroom door was jammed shut.
"Vivian? Vivian?" Bernard shouted.
After calling twice, he kicked the bathroom door open and shone his phone's flashlight inside. There she was, lying on the floor.
Bernard dashed forward, covered her face with his suit jacket to protect her from the smoke, and swiftly carried her out.
In the hallway, Curtis Huxley assumed Vivian was dead—until he saw Bernard emerge from the flames with her in his arms. His body stiffened, eyes wide in disbelief.
"Vivian? Vivian?" Curtis called her name several times, but she didn't respond.
Bernard carried Vivian downstairs to the ambulance. Medical staff blocked Curtis from entering the vehicle.
Bernard stayed with Vivian in the ambulance. Under the interior light, he noticed her arms and feet were blistered from burns, and much of her waist-length hair was singed.
