Chapter 6
"Mom, it hurts… it hurts so much."
Lucas cried out in pain, pressing his tiny head against my neck.
I tried talking to him, but before I finished, he passed out in my arms.
"Baby, I’m taking you to the hospital right now." I shook his shoulder, only then noticing the explosion had torn his shoulder open, leaving it a bloody mess.
Agony ripped through me.
I didn’t care about talking to the police anymore. I had to rush my son to the hospital.
The doctor told me his skin was infected, and there were explosion wounds—his heart was nearly hit. Lucas would have to stay in the ICU for observation.
My chest tightened as I watched him through the glass, aching so much I wished I could take his pain for him.
A cold, knife-like voice cut through the silence behind me. "So, looks like you really care about the other man."
At that moment, my chest filled with hate.
I turned around, and our eyes met. His gaze was icy and hard, burning with jealous rage and wounded pride.
