Chapter 40 I Want to Remember This Day
Cressida lost her balance and fell backward. Her lower back hit the sharp corner of the hardwood square table in the room, and a muffled groan escaped her lips.
A sharp, stabbing pain ripped through her abdomen and spread through her whole body. She curled up, pressing both hands desperately against her stomach as cold sweat beaded her forehead.
Luther froze at the sight, then an inexplicable panic rose in his chest. He wondered if she was really pregnant. But then he remembered the countless times she had deceived him before.
He scoffed dismissively and was certain this was just another one of her tricks. She had prepared meticulously this time, even the blood to fake a miscarriage. In his eyes, she was just a conniving witch.
"Stop pretending, I—"
Luther's phone buzzed in his pocket before he could finish. He frowned and answered the call.
"What is it?"
The voice on the other end wiped the anger and impatience from his face, replacing it with pure elation.
"What? Nat's awake
